Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial Cup "Tibetan World Cup In Exile"..

Final ceremony in Bylakuppe 2010
The tibetan World Cup in exile is what we call as GCM,which is held in the memorial of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's Mother Gyalyum Chenmo is the yearly much awaited biggest soccer tournament for the tibetan people living in various parts of India. It is organised by Tibetan National Sports Association, is played every year. The hype and popularity of this event is at its peak amongst the tibetan youngsters.Clementown FC won the last GCM Cup which was held at Bylakuppe by defeating Mungod FC in a penalty shootout.Last year 18 teams from Tibetan settlements across India and Nepal competed for the cup and also a team from Canada, the first team outside India to take part in the tournament other than Nepal.

This year the tournament will be played in Mungod and expected to be a bigger and better one than the last one.For the meantime its not confirmed how many teams are participating this year in the tournament. Tibetan Students Association of Madras(TSAM) had confirmed their participation in the tournament this year.Norbu Dhondup, sports secterary of TSAM said,"this year we are participating with a belief of at least qualifying for the finals and we are working hard on it although its a bit tough to practice together as a team because of different college timings and locations''.On the other hand Gulladhalla FC is not going to take part this year in the tournament and rumours are to be believed  is said to be because due lack of funds.

Last year the winning team received Rs 50,000,with Rs 30,000 going to the runner-up and Rs 10,000 to the second runners up and also to the best behaved team. Thus few more days are left for the kick off ceremony of the biggest sporting event of the tibetan people in exile and why not so its the only tournament which unites all the tibetan settlements in exile to a gathering to show case their soccer skills which ultimately catches the eyes of the Tibetan National Football Coaches or managers.
